Trigger Warning

Jim Bis, a freelance photographer and military retiree, has completed his new book “A Captured Moment with Photography”: a page-turning tapestry of the subtle moments in human life that make the experience unforgettable.

Whether creating an image for himself or for a local newspaper, Bis imbues each of his photographs with a deeper purpose. The pictures act as instantaneous pieces of art, fully completed in concept at the push of a button. “When looking through a camera lens for creating images, it always seemed to me, that it is the finished image, I was looking for.”

Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Jim Bis’s enthralling collection is both well polished in its design and fulfilling in its theme.

Three distinct phases of his photographic expression are highlighted in this portfolio. A series of breathtaking black and whites originate from his leave time while being stationed in Europe in the late 50’s and early 60’s as a Military Occupational Specialist: Photo Lab Technician.

An assortment of scintillating colored photos taken using a wide variety of effects are the most recent, stemming from his freelance photography for the Northwest Indiana Times Newspaper.

He relishes in the wonder of the candidness of his images and their ability to relay messages about life that staging cannot. He also includes a small group of photos which are purposefully planned, which he entitles his ‘model portfolios.’

Readers who wish to experience this refreshing work can purchase “A Captured Moment with Photography” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
