Trigger Warning

Learn how to use the 1850’s-era albumen printing process in this hands-on workshop! Santa Fe-based albumen expert Jennifer Schlesinger will lead you through the process from start to finish, including making and coating paper with albumen, sensitizing the paper, printing, and toning. In addition to leaving with finished albumen prints of their own images, each student will take home their own batch of albumen. We will discuss troubleshooting regarding paper, negatives, and chemical issues in order for you to walk away with the understanding necessary to achieve the best results when practicing this medium on your own. Students will be printing with digital negatives tailored specifically to the albumen process, but in order to maximize workshop printing time, these negatives will be prepared ahead of time. More details will be provided closer to the workshop date. This workshop is introductory and intended for students of all levels, but students with an understanding of alternative processes may achieve a greater understanding of technicalities. All materials will be provided by Art Intersection. To gain a better understanding of this process and to hear about Jennifer’s artistic practice, join us for her Artist Lecture on Friday, January 20 from 6:30 – 8pm.
