Performance Artist Tina Takemoto's Memoirs of Bjork-Geisha

Issues of race and sexuality converge as performance artist Tina Takemoto presents Memoirs of Bjork-Geisha: From Orientalism to Incarceration. Part film screening, part performance and part lecture, this evening at the San Jose Museum of Art includes Takemoto's experimental short films Warning Shot and Looking for Jiro, which brings to life the experience of gay Japanese Americans interned during World War II, mashing up propaganda footage, Madonna, body-building and homoerotic bread making. Semiotics of Sab paints an oblique portrait of gay actor and Hollywood veteran Sab Shimono. An associate professor of visual studies at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, Tina Takemoto will also be on hand for a post-screening Q&A at this Silicon Valley Asian Pacific FilmFest event.
