Trigger Warning

magnolia’s pale to purple
give praise in a steady rain
that blurs the backdrop –
so cheery blossoms vivid
stand whiter than the saints-
as everything closes in.

since the flood began
fences fall – doors jam open;
celebrity girl gives head,
topless GI in Kandahar,
world is our living room –
as everything rushes in.

the roof and hail collide,
distant transformers crash;
left to our own devices,
snuggled against the storm;
we light candles and sit –
as everything closes in.
