These large sculptures, built out of welded steel and glass, reach over 2 metres high. They relate to the formalist tradition of abstract steel sculpture, however the pieces are not purely abstract and make reference to the concrete world. With this artwork, the artist’s intention is to create independent visual experiences that stimulate the viewer to make their own associations and interpret the works themselves. For example, the sculptures are evocative of the meandering turns of a river or curves of a silhouette. For the artist, steel is symbolic of humankind’s achievements, glass represents water, or “universal reflection of life,” and oxidation is suggestive of time and change. The juxtaposition of steel and glass can be translated as a balance of technology and nature.
