LA GRANGE, IL – A growing interest in hand-crafted goods and the popularity of Pinterest and Instagram are helping to drive shoppers and vendors to the 43rd annual La Grange Craft Fair on Saturday and Sunday, July 15-16, 2017. Nearly 200 artisans from throughout the Midwest will sell one-of-a-kind items, according to the La Grange Business Association, the event organizer. One of the most popular summer events in the area, the La Grange Craft Fair will offer a broad range of wares, from original paintings and yard art to handmade clothing, jewelry, soaps and accessories from tents along La Grange Road from Burlington Ave.to Cossitt Avenue and west on Harris Street from La Grange Road to Ashland Avenue. As Americans' lives have become increasingly digital where more of what they own is stored in the cloud, interest in making and owning tangible hand-crafted items is booming, according to a 2016 study. Crafting has become a popular past-time for US adults, with more than half participating in at least one type of craft in the previous year. The La Grange Craft Fair continues to benefit from the increased demand from millennials who are dominating the $29 billion craft industry. According to Karen Yackley of Craft Productions Inc., the show's promoter, millennials are looking for items that are recycled, repurposed, vintage, sustainable and one-of-a-kind. Some of the unique items to watch for this year are cigar box guitars, folk art dolls, horseshoe art and upcycled furniture. The fair will take place from 9AM – 6PM on Saturday and from 10AM – 5PM on Sunday. Expanded free parking is available in the covered garage behind Village Hall and other locations.
