Trigger Warning

When dear Ernest Worthing, friend to dapper man-about-town Algernon Moncrieff, appears in London to propose to his sweetheart Gwendolyn Fairfax, respectable society is shocked to discover that the man calling himself Ernest is in fact named Jack! Inspired by this delicious piece of tomfoolery, Algernon hatches a plan to visit Jack's house in the country under the guise of the fictitious "Ernest", where he meets a dear, sweet young woman named Cecily Cardew. Love flies through the air as swiftly as the wordplay in this farcical look at high society and the ridiculous customs we hold in the name of politeness. The Importance of Being Earnest is a biting piece of satire which pulls apart the social obligations that constrain us; whether it be complex marriage proposal traditions, over-the-top tea table decorum, or the inexcusable faux-pas of being found in a handbag in a train station, rather than a hospital birthing ward as one would normally assume. This production is performed in the beautiful outdoor Majlis Art Garden in Queen West, under the fading evening sun, and amid beautiful flower beds and greenery. Come relax, enjoy a cup of tea and a show, and discover the Importance of Being Earnest for yourself!
