The following is my short biographical statement with the even shorter version being that I am just one more human trudging the path of human incarnation, one who loves to write.

Judy Shepps Battle has been writing essays and poems long before retiring from being a psychotherapist and sociology professor. She is a New Jersey resident, addictions specialist, consultant and freelance writer. Her poems have been accepted in a variety of publications including Ascent Aspirations; Barnwood Press; Battered Suitcase; Caper Literary Journal; Epiphany Magazine; Joyful; Message in a Bottle Poetry Magazine; Raleigh Review; Rusty Truck; Short, Fast and Deadly; the Tishman Review, and Wilderness House Literary Press.

Trigger Warning

twenty years ago

a handwritten note
no real explanation

my heart broken
yours not beating

all that remains
are ghostly fingers

stroking my face
as I try to sleep.

I desire more!

I want you alive
warm in my arms

making love as
two women should

breathlessly intimate
not wrapped in a shroud

rotting in a grave
somewhere in Canada

disguised as still art
body morphing into
atoms and molecules
without me.
