Trigger Warning

We creep along the walls
camouflaged faces—
painted to chameleon
our surroundings;
perhaps our bright smiles
will be among thousands;
no one will see the darkness
hidden behind our eyes.
It’s easy enough to deflect
How are you
when two words cover
an entire battleground;
I’m fine.
And so our secrets remain
tucked behind the bulwarks
where the only true enemy
holds hostage our minds.
