Trigger Warning

From the valleys of despair where man has sunk
To the mountains of elation where his praise was sung
It was words and not swords that won his greatest battles
Words of the promise of victory kept him swinging from saddles
Words heal his wounds and made him King upon great castles

In time of war when blood is shed
And moments of peace when smiles are shared
It’s with words and not swords the stories were written
For every sword that slashed, a word was given
A word of valour or vengeance to get even

One too many times word and sword have been crossed
Swords swing, sharp blades slash and thrust
And yet it has left word no harm to bear
Words embody the wind and with it disappear
To distant places of which sword will never hear

At the end of the battle it is words that remain in our memory
And not the number of swords used to slay the enemy
Or the imperial furnaces from where they were forged
Words remain sharp long after the deed is done
Long after the swords have been rusted and dulled
